DEAD CALM
Category: Research | Date: Feb 29 2008 | By: admin
Day 11. Zero sightings. Again. Rob flew up and down, up and down…until we decided to call it a day. The sea was so flat and the visibility was breath-taking at around 40m! Volker and David filmed and took pictures while we waited for sightings that never came. We have just driven all the way back down to Diani and are geared up to continue tagging tomorrow. We have 30 odd people coming on 3 boats to watch us work so I am hoping the Diani sharks are going to be more cooperative than their Watamu bretheren!
We remain positive. Pray for whale sharks galore tomorrow!!

Well, I pray you find some of these amazing creatures, just stay safe! What else are you finding…any whales?

Hi Theresa. We see a lot of turtles, literally hundreds from the air as well as dolphins and manta rays. We do get humpback whales passing through our coast line but not generally at this time of year and we think they are more predictable than the whale sharks. We think that whale sharks are here generally all year round whereas the whales pass through in our winter and don’t tend to hang around. Your prayer clearly worked as we have now tagged 16 sharks, we have finished all the satellite tags. So thanks for praying!!! And please keep reading our blog!
